Dorothy, a long-standing member of INS and one of the founding members of the Great Lakes Chapter passed away while attending the 2005 Annual Meeting of the Infusion Nurses Society in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. Over the course of twenty-five years, Dorothy served in various roles on the board of the national organization and also within our local chapter. Quality infusion nursing care through education and certification was Dorothy’s aim for herself and those she managed or taught.
To honor the memory of Dorothy Jackson, the Great Lakes Chapter of the Infusion Nurses Society has established The Dorothy Jackson, CRNI Scholarship.
This annual scholarship will provide one $500 award to active Great Lakes Chapter member seeking first-time certification offered by the Infusion Nurses Society. The award will be designated for the registration fee associated with the certification exam. Upon successful completion of the certification process, the recipient will be allowed to use the designation of CRNI®; Certified Registered Nurse Infusion. This certification supports and recognizes a commitment to improving and enhancing the quality of infusion nursing. Dorothy Jackson believed in the benefits of certification and served as a mentor to many who sought this prestigious position and title.
Selection Criteria
- Applicant must be a Registered Nurse practicing infusion therapy and be eligible to sit for the Infusion Nurses Society Certification Exam as defined by the INCC (Infusion Nurses Certification Corporation).
- Applicant must be an active member in the Great Lakes Chapter of INS for a minimum of one year.
- Applicant will submit an essay (approximately 250 words) explaining why s/he feels deserving of this scholarship and what impact certification will have on his or her practice.
- Provide two letters of recommendation from professional colleagues or manager.
- Submission of Dorothy Jackson Scholarship Application and supporting documents within stated timeline.
Terms of Scholarship Payout
- Payable to recipient upon successful completion of CRNI exam within one year of receiving the award.
